Farewell 2011, farewell Jimmy Savile..

As we prepare to say farewell to 2011 and hello to 2012 I can honestly say that the past twelve months have been something of a blur. Strange really as 2011 has yielded some extraordinary events such as the riots in England where something in the (Nike) air ended up leading to widespread disorder (Adi-das-order). Fanning flames of chaos and rebellion in London, Birmingham, Merseyside, Manchester and Bristol amongst other places, many young disenfranchised ladies and gents took to the streets flanked by opportunist (entrepreneurs?) looking to bag a flat screen plasma TV, mobile phone, pair of trainers, tracksuit, jeans or bottle of water, All available for a limited period at the knock down price of “fuck all”.

Watching the scenes of chaos and destruction on the news I felt a great deal of sympathy for the innocent people caught up in the middle of the mayhem. It also occurred to me that many people were uninterested in any form of protest and were in fact focused on acquiring as much loot as they could at the expense of the communities around them. Not exactly a fresh new phenomenon of human behaviour under a capitalist system, if anything at least these thieves/go-getters/entrepreneurs where local unlike Coca-Cola who sell us our water (Deep RiverRock) sourced in Tullynacross, N. Ireland. Unfortunately it’s the same the whole world over. We shell out serious amounts of money to keep our cars in petrol, we hand over bucket loads of rate payers’ money to water companies (such as the wonderful NIE) to provide us with the water we require for everyday life and you’ll not be shocked to hear that electricity also costs us a pretty penny. The list could go on and on… I guess the point is that whilst these youths who went robbin’ and thieving for trainers and tellies have been made an example of vie the justice system whilst multinational corporations are free to enrich themselves selling us natural resources that they did not create but apparently own. Why? Because they have owned them for longer than we can remember?

If that is the way the world works it does make it a tad difficult to condemn “da Yute” (young folk) for wanting to grab what they can, when they can at the expense of multinational companies (and unfortunately in some cases during the riots, smaller independent traders).

At this point I guess I should draw some conclusion from all this balls and point out the one true political ideology that will show us all the correct way towards clarity and fairness in society as a whole. Unfortunately with human nature often being so selfish, fucked up and shitty it is difficult to do so. It’s unfortunate that we’re stuck with a Tory government for the time being (coalition my ass) and are thus left to the will of vile snakes like Cameron, Osborne and co but I would hope for one thing. Next time there are riots, forget the trainers and TV’s, takedown the traitors and the scumbag MP’s.

I can dream anyway.

My thoughts go out to all those who have had to endure appalling poverty, to all the oppressed (including over 35,000 souls who have lost their lives since the Arab Spring kicked off over a year ago) and to all of the wonderful people who selflessly give so much to make this rock we dwell upon a better place to live simply because it is the right thing to do. Finally 2011 saw us bid farewell to Jimmy Savile, a true gent and a top bloke. You’ll be missed Jim, hopefully your existence will remind us that not all celebrities are egotistical self-serving cunts.  Laters
